How do you follow up an awesome inaugural vintage, 5-star wine? The answer: with much difficulty. I was enthralled with the M2 Gamay from '09 giving it a rare, and coveted 5 stars. Now '10 comes along and it's a different ball game. It's still a step up from their "Alive" Gamay (the base model) as it is an estate wine, barrel selected and limited production of only 700 cases; but '09 was a perfect Gamay vintage. The '10 doles out earthy-raspberry-cherry on the nose, with more intense cherry and raspberry then its lower priced counterpart. On the palate the earthiness is toned back in favour of the fruit with pumped up acidity and brighter / denser fruit. Price: $19.95 - Rating: ****
