The baby brother of this wine, “Icon” 2016 Red, was a wonderful bottle of wine, the Grand is just as wonderful but kicked up a notch. Nine barrels make up the blend composed of 46% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 19% Cabernet Sauvignon, all taken from Clark and Carlton farms, aged 12 months in oak separately then an additional 6 months together … this is the first Grand Red made since 2012 – which shows that Trius really is only saving this label for those great vintages. Smoky, spicy, dark fruit and acid elements all play a role: plum, black cherry, cassis, blueberry and even some leather and graphite show up to the party. This need time to further meld together but it’s looking good right now – but let’s not rush its consumption, this wine can only get better with age. Price: $85.00 – Rating: **** ½
